Joachim As a Vampire

Before you read

Many find Joachim to be a fascinating character due to what little the storyline has to offer the player regarding his past and the lack of elaboration on why he was forced down into the depths of the Dark Palace of Waterfalls. Mystery shrouds him in a thick veil that fans can only speculate on what's beneath it. This section does not offer any speculation, but provides the hard facts that are included within the storyline.

Joachim Armster (pronounced Ah-heem in English and Yoh-heem in Japanese, not joh-ah-chim) as he is known is one of Walter's more advanced transformations having kept his human will and, perhaps, his mortal personality through the change. Were it not for his rebellious and aggressive nature, Joachim might have been a valuable asset and ally to Walter who is ever at odds with the world around him. He has great power and strength for such a young child of the night.

It isn't until you explore through the Dark Palace of Waterfalls that you meet the unfortunate soul that Joachim has been reduced to after many years of solitude in that watery grave. He was locked away in the dungeon and awaits the day that Walter returns so that he may enact revenge upon his former master. And so he waits, dwelling upon the exact manner of which to avenge himself with what little sanity he has to use ...

Marfisa of Vampire Killer has also done us fans a great deed and translated various information on Joachim (not to mention other characters from Japanese to English. Thank you, Marfisa!

Why Joachim?

While Joachim, in-game-wise, is not the best looking character nor does the game particularly spill into the player's glass a generous amount of information about him, but there is fascination in the mystery of who he is, where he came from, and what became of him in the end. He suffers from questionable sanity and a lust to devour his enemies. Joachim is a vampire who finds himself lost and adrift in a world that hates him for who he is.

The most interesting thing about Joachim was the fact that he was imprisoned by Walter for reasons gone unexplained by the storyline. He instituted a rebellion yes, but why? How did all of this happen to him and why? That is what I really find attention-grabbing about his character. Why Joachim?
